{ Friday's Favorite Things - Back-To-School Organization } || Martinez, GA Family Photographer

Back-To-School time is truly one of my most favorite times of the year...  I L-O-V-E the organization that the school year brings to me and my family.  I am a planner at heart and having school in session means a routine.  Don't get me wrong, I relish lazy mornings and days with my children during the summer, but a routine keeps our lives moving forward.

Three areas filled with children's school supplies and baskets underneath the bench for shoes.

To get ready for school this year, we did our back-to-school shopping during the sale days a few weeks ago and I organized all that we purchased into bins and designated spaces for our children.

Image of bench with children's school supplies including lunch boxes, tissues, juice boxes and notepads.

The spaces are our launching stations for the kids' school supplies, including school bags, coats and shoes. It makes getting ready for school a snap! Organization is key to get 3 kids off to school each day!

Chalk board filled with weekly activities for a family in different colors.

We even created a fun and great way too keep our daily events organized with a fancy chalkboard in a central location in our home.

Seven chalk board markers in a variety of colors.

To make it even more fun, I bought color chalk markers.  Each Sunday night, we figure out what is happening for our week and get ready - sometimes mentally and physically (any of you other Moms have to stretch before the week starts, too??).  I have had a fabulous summer and look forward to a fabulous new school year starting next week.

{Friday's Favorite Things - The Beach} || Augusta, GA Family Photographer

I admit it... I am an outdoor girl at heart.  There is something so tranquil about the beach to me... the sun, the surf and the carefree nature being on the shoreline does to me.  I really feel like I am living a country music song about finding true love and living in the moment the second my toes touch the sand.  There is something so intrinsically natural and relaxing when I am in a pair of sunglasses, with warm sunshine caressing my skin, a nice breeze cooling my toes and the smell of salt water putting my mind at peace.  Just typing this, I can feel my shoulders starting to relax!!

Five images of families and children at the beach including playing in the ocean and in the sand.

So, it was with so much joy that my family and I agreed to spend a week with my sister and her family and my Mom and Step-dad at a Duck, NC beach for a week this summer.  Because even a photographer needs a break to refresh, most of the photos I captured were with my Iphone (you can take the professional camera away from the girl, but you can't take the photographer out of the girl!).  I couldn't help but fall in love all over again with watching my children play with their cousins.  I couldn't help but fall in love all over again with how much I appreciate my sister and Mom.  And I couldn't help but fall in love all over again with what the beach does for my soul.  Beach time - it should be mandatory every year!

{Friday's Favorite Things - Home } || North Augusta, SC Newborn and Family Photographer

After a summer filled with travel to places all along the East Coast - literally, my family and I traveled from Florida to Massachusetts with many stops in between from June until last weekend - I had to take a moment to appreciate what I have been enjoying this week... HOME!

Glass jar with pieces of folded white paper.

Don't get me wrong, we had a F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S summer filled with so much love, joy and adventure, but as Dorothy says during her final adventure in Oz, "There is no place like home".

Basket full of fresh peaches.

Red cherry tomatoes on the vine.

Sweet Georgia peaches from our local farmstand and home grown tomatoes from our garden taste even better when sitting around our dining room table with my family chatting about the news of the day.

Red topped dining room table with 2 black chairs and 4 white chairs.

I couldn't believe how excited I have been to simply look around at all the handy work my husband has been doing, some of which I hadn't stopped to appreciate while we were traveling.  How incredible to cuddle up with the family in our bed to watch a movie and lean against the hard work of my partner-in-crime and best friend who made our headboard, my husband, Brett.

Blue painted master bedroom with handmade pallet headboard.

I have admired our front door this week so much and I think that might be because the most important treasures in my life find so much comfort behind that door and so do I.

Black front door with a cursive letter "C" hanging from a decorative bow.

Crock pot and coffee machine on a kitchen counter.

My crock pot was actually hugged this week when we returned home, because I have missed making meals in it for my family and I have chosen to stop and smell the roses - literally and figuratively - this week because they were blooming so beautifully and I needed to catch my breath as I got caught up on life in our home.

Three yellow roses in full bloom in the sunshine.

And last, but not least, I forgot how much time, effort and love was put into choosing our wall display portraits and I have loved snuggling on the couch with my children, my husband and our dog and looking over to see the most important parts of my heart and soul staring back at me.  Life is so good and I am so thankful.

{ Friday's Favorite Things - Felt Tip Pens } || Aiken SC Newborn Photographer

Ok, ok, ok... I have a bit of secret obsession that I need to tell you about.  It is one that instantly makes me feel like a kid again.  Felt Tip Pens!!

Image of multiple colored felt tips pens on hardwood floor.

I mean seriously, who doesn't like felt tip pens?  The variety of colors, the ability to add a unique style of ink to a piece of paper, the cap that clicks when you put it back on...  { I told you it was an obsession!! }

Felt tip pens are such a little thing in life, but they make me so happy.  I find myself using different colors based on my mood or depending on whom I writing a note to at that moment.

It is funny that sometimes in this fast-paced world of non-stop messages and online interaction, a felt tip pen will make me feel like I am a little girl sitting in my dad's office chair.  Sweet memories of a simpler time!  What items make you feel nostalgia?

{ Friday's Favorite Things - Cousins } || Evans GA Newborn and Family Photographer

I recently saw a quote about cousins that went something like this, "A Cousin is a Ready-Made Friend for Life".  Oh boy is that true!!!

Three young cousins in bathing suits.

When I was debating about attending the Heidi Hope Photography Workshop, my cousin, Claudine (she also manages a few facets of my photography business), said, "Drive through NJ, drop off your children and go to the workshop!!!"  How could I pass up an offer like that, right?!?

So, in the middle of June, we arrived at her house and to my surprise, she had invited two of her siblings, who also live in NJ, to visit with us, too.

A boy in a suit and a girl in a dress laying in the grass looking up to the sky.

So, there I was in NJ with 3 of my cousins, swimming, BBQing lots of goodies and feeling like I was a kid again (minus all the Barbie-playing and dress-up).  My cousins and I spent summers and winter vacations traveling to each other's homes to spend time together.

Oh the stories we could tell, but... isn't that the beauty of cousins, right?!?  You each keep a part of the other's childhood so close to your heart - memories only you can share.

So, this summer was a fabulous one for me for sure!  And you want to know the best part, watching our children play together, watching them develop relationships and memories that will last their whole lives, too!

{ Friday's Favorite Things - Heidi Hope } || Edgefield, SC Newborn Photographer

I have to admit that this has been one of the best summers in my professional career because of one person - the fabulous Heidi Hope.

For those of you who don't know her (check out her website and blog NOW), she is one incredible photographer who lives in Rhode Island.

I have been a huge fan for quite a while!  I would see all the wonderful portrait sessions she was doing, would be inspired and in awe of her creativity.

And then the most magical thing happened...  All the stars aligned and I was able to attend her INCREDIBLE Photographers Workshop in June.

I can not believe I met Heidi and her incredible team, but I also had the privilege of working with them, being inspired by them and feeling as though I have grown as a photographer and business woman in one month's time.

Life has a funny way of putting people in your life just when you need them!  Thank you Heidi and your team for your generosity and for sharing your genius!
